Itinerary
Your holiday on the beautiful coast of Catalonia begins today at London St Pancras. As you arrive, meet the Tour Manager and the rest of your travel group, and together, board the Eurostar to Paris. Switching trains in the French capital, we continue our journey on the high-speed TGV train, travelling south toward the Spanish border.
After a day spent watching the changes in the landscape, our train arrives in the Catalan town of Figueres this evening. From here, a coach transfer takes us to our base for the next week, Roses. This beautiful coastal town lies at the head of the Costa Brava in the Cap de Creus Natural Park, nestled between the azure Mediterranean and sun-drenched hills. Our hotel provides a comfortable and relaxing base from which to discover this part of Spain, and upon checking in, we enjoy a light dinner buffet and included glass of wine with our group.

Step aboard the high-speed international rail service, linking London St Pancras to Paris and Lille in France, Brussels in Belgium and Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

One of the few rack railways operating in Spain, the Núria Valley Rack Railway represents one of the only ways to access the Núria Valley besides boats and hiking. As such, it offers an opportunity to appreciate the serene beauty of the valley and its lake, without the buzz and contamination of traffic. The magnificent scenery is on full show here, with the water reflecting the greens and browns of the forests which cover the sloping mountainside.

Introduced in 1981, France's TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) was the original European high-speed train. Linking Paris with Lyon, the new service revolutionised train travel and meant that travelling by air over medium and short distances was no longer seen as the best option, even for business travel.

Dressed up in cheery red paint, standing out against the dense green of the majestic Pyrenees Mountains, the Red Train of the Pyrenees brings out the best of this superb mountain range. Featuring open-top carriages, passengers can fully immerse themselves in the scenery, taking in the brisk mountain air and admiring the mossy cliffs, deep valleys and noble peaks for which this region is justly famous. Known to the locals as the Train du Pays Cathare et des Fenouilledes, the Red Train travels from charming Rivesaltes to the small village of Axat.
Enhance your holiday
Spending a night in London before your tour can make such a difference to the first day of your holiday - you can arrive in the capital in good time, relaxed and ready to join your Tour Manager the next morning. You may even want to take in a show on the West End or dine in one of London's famous restaurants. Perhaps on your return to London, you would like to break your journey with an overnight stay before continuing home.
We can book a wide range of hotels in central London or, for our holidays beginning with a flight, at Heathrow, Gatwick, or Manchester Airport for the night before or after your holiday. If you require a quote for single occupancy at any of the hotels, please contact us on 01904 734 805.
Buying tickets for UK train services can be a tricky business - there are so many fares to choose from, each with different rules and restrictions. As you are connecting with an international departure, we strongly recommend that you book a fully flexible ticket to ensure that should the departure times for your holiday change, your rail ticket can allow for these changes.
We can book fully-flexible UK rail tickets from your local station to join your holiday whether this be a European holiday from St Pancras or a UK holiday. The prices are competitive and tickets are not restricted to a particular train or time of day, and in most cases offer you a free choice of routes.
For an up to date quote from your local station, please ask one of our Tour Advisors.

Great tour with lovely base and hotel in Roses a beautiful town on the coast. The hotel is a 40 minute walk from the Centre but flat and you can walk along the seafront and get a taxi back. Plenty of restaurants along the route and inland. The rail journeys up to the Pyrenees were very good with wonderful views, although the Little Red Train was very busy so a bit cramped but it was a weekend. The road train journey in Roses was brilliant. The hotel was great for a 3*, the buffet style food was excellent with lots of choice. The train journey getting there can be challenging with getting suitcases on and off but there's usually someone in the group who can help with that. All in all a great tour and ours was excellent value for money.

The Tour was fine, but the Hotel Victoria was too far away from the centre of Roses, and the Buffet meals were always only warm, and then eaten from cold plates. Not a pleasant prospect at the end of the day.

Overall the trips out on the trains and the scenery was very good. Unfortunately due to the hotel in Roses being at least 2.5 hours travel time each way from the station of departure, there was a lot of coach travel. The hotel served hot and cold buffet style breakfast and evening meals, which were to a good standard, with live music each night
